Reception September 2020

21st August 2020

We hope that you have had a lovely summer and are really looking forward to welcoming you to Feniscowles!

As you will be aware, you are invited to attend a drop-in session and then your child can attend a stay and play session during the first week of the new school term. Details of your child's group and time were sent before the holiday but if you can't remember, please do get in touch by emailing office@feniscowles.blackburn.sch.uk  . Please note this email is not monitored daily  and it may take a few days for you to receive a reply.

We feel it would be beneficial for your child to wear their new school uniform on both of these occasions as it will help them to feel like a part of the school and prepare them for the following week when they start full-time.

The Reception Team

Arrangements for September 2020 – New Reception

Thank you for your patience and understanding with regards to our induction to school in September. As you will appreciate, we are dealing with a constantly evolving situation and guidance regularly changes.

We are now in a position to be able to share with you the arrangements for your child joining us at Feniscowles. We are hoping that these arrangements are robust however, if we have to make any changes we will let you know as soon as we can.

We have split the children in each class into three groups of ten, based on dates of birth. In some cases the start date will differ from the "phase" date information in our recent letter; the class will remain the same.

Your group will be sent via text, by Thursday 16th July. If you do not receive this information, please contact school.

All visits and starting days will be in the same group so that the children have the opportunity to get to know one another in a smaller group situation first.

Wednesday 2nd September

Open Classroom – Visit the classroom with your child.

This is an opportunity for you to chat to staff and see the classroom environment.

Please form a socially distanced queue at the Park Farm Road gate and a member of staff will show you round to the Reception classroom doors. Please attend at some point during your allocated time slot, you do not need to stay in school for the whole session:           9.30 – 10.30      Group 1

11.00 – 12.00     Group 2

1.00 – 2.00       Group 3

Thursday 3rd September

Stay and Play – Children to spend some time in school without parent/carer.

Please bring your child to the Park Farm Road Gate at the relevant time and form a socially distanced queue alongside the railings. A member of staff will meet you to show you around to the classroom doors. Parents will follow our one-way system and leave via the car park gate in the infant playground. Follow the same arrangements for collection at the end of the session.

We understand that many of you will have questions and anxieties around your child starting school, particularly with the current situation.

Please rest assured that your child’s welfare and emotional needs are of utmost importance to us and will be at the heart of our plans for the return to school. We are following up to date guidance with regards to the provision that we offer and are committed to making the transition to school as happy and welcoming as we possibly can.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Feniscowles Family!

We would normally have organised a series of visits and meetings to help you and your child prepare for starting school.

Due to the COVID situation, we have had to adapt our usual plans.

In this area you will find:

  • Photographs of our infant building and reception provision
  • Welcome letter from the reception staff
  • Questionnaire to gather the information we would have asked at home visits had they taken place - IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL IF YOU COULD PLEASE COMPLETE THIS
  • Link to a form for submitting questions and concerns - WE WILL ENDEAVOUR TO RESPOND WITHIN 2 WORKING DAYS
  • Frequently asked questions

Over the next few weeks, we will also add other resources which you can use to help prepare your child for starting school.
