The Sport Premium Money for PE and School Sport 2014-2015

The Sport Premium Money for PE and School Sport

The Sport Premium is a funding package allocated from the government. They are providing schools with additional money over the academic year to support the delivery of PE and School Sport.

At Feniscowles, we decided to deploy the money in three areas.

  1. Gymnastics coach.
  2. Service Level Agreement with Blackburn with Darwen School Games Organiser.
  3. To develop the use of ICT within PE lessons

  1. Gymnastics Coach

After surveying the staffs’ needs, we decided that we would appoint a gymnastics coach to team teach with the class teacher across the school. Sam Crewe, an experienced gymnastics coach began teaching at Feniscowles in September 2013.

  1. Service Level Agreement

At Feniscowles, we decided to sign up to a Premium Service Level Agreement with the Blackburn with Darwen School Game Organiser. This provides children at Feniscowles with many opportunities:
  • Access many extra-curricular competitions.
  • Receive coaching for an after-school club. We are using this for a netball coach for a Y6   club.
  • SEN Support. We will access Boccia and other sporting competitions and will be running an after-school club for selected children in the summer term.
  • Gifted and Talented support. There will be an opportunity for selected KS2 children to participate in Gifted and Talented camps during school half terms.
  • Leadership. Selected Y5 children who chose to be play leaders at lunchtime have received training.
  • Curriculum Support.

  1. To develop the use of ICT within PE lessons

At Feniscowles we decided that the use of an i-pad would help us in the assessment of PE lessons and the recording of the different activities we participate in.

Impact of the Schools’ Sports Premium 2014 -2015

Our children in 2014 -2015 have had access to a wide range of competitions. Our success in these competitions can be seen from our list of successes. It has also allowed us to take part in new activities.

Gymnastics
Employing a specialist gymnastics coach a day a week has helped the staff to learn new and creative ways to teach gymnastics within the curriculum and given them more confidence. The development of the children’s gymnastic skills can clearly be seen and has positively been commented on by staff and parents. This year a number of children entered the Year 3 and 4 Gymnastics competition and for the first time one of our Year 4 girls came third in the individual event and went on to represent Blackburn with Darwen at the Lancashire Spar games which were held in Blackpool in June.

Sports Leadership
A group of children have been trained as play leaders at lunch time. This helps to develop the children’s leadership and confidence skills.

PE i-pad
The money has enabled us to buy an i-pad which is a valuable tool for Sport and PE. As it is mobile it can be used both inside and outside. It is an excellent tool to be used in PE in order to inspire children’s learning, recap prior learning and help share excellent practice. It is a very effective teacher tool that can support assessment.
