Sporting Events 2014-2015

SPORTING EVENTS 2014 -2015
 
CROSS COUNTRY – October 2014 – March 2015
This was held as 3 after school meetings. The children showed great determination with all improving their finishing places from the first race to the last. Our highest placed girl was  6th and in the Boys’ event it was 7th. This was out of well over 100 runners in each event.

GIRLS’ FOOTBALL  September 2014 – June 2014
Our girls’ team entered several competitions throughout the year.
They entered the BwD 5 a-side competition which was held at St Bede’s. Unfortunately they did not progress to the semi-finals.
The girls however learnt some valuable lessons and went on to be joint winners of the BwD girls’ league.

BOYS’ FOOTBALL
Congratulations went to the Boys’ Football team who were winners of their league. They had an excellent record of not losing a single match.
 
YEAR 3 / 4 BOYS’ FOOTBALL TEAM
 
The annual Year3/4 Blackburn with Darwen football tournament was held on Feniscowles Recreation Ground. The boys’ won all their matches and this meant we were overall winners of the tournament which is a record as this is the fourth year on the run we have been champions.
 
BOYS’ CRICKET
The boys’ cricket team took part in the Boys’ Blackburn with Darwen Cricket Competition at Darwen Cricket Club. They made it through to the semi – finals where they were beaten. They played the losers of the other semi-final and came third overall.
 
GIRLS’ CRICKET
 
The girls’ cricket team took part in the Blackburn with Darwen Girls’ Cricket competition at Darwen Cricket Club. They played several matches but unfortunately on this occasion did not progress to the semi-finals.
 
BOYS’ CRICKET
 
Congratulations to a boy in Year 6 who was selected for Lancashire U11’s. This was a great honour.
 
SWIMMING GALA
We entered every event at the Blackburn Swimming Gala at Darwen Leisure Centre. We got through to the finals in fourteen out of the fifteen events. One of our boys came 3rd in the Individual Medley and we also came 1st in the Boys’ Backstroke.

KEY STAGE 2 Athletics
 
A team of children took part in the Blackburn with Darwen Athletics competition at Witton Park. Several children reached the finals with the following being placed in the first three:-
 
A Year 6 girl also made sporting history as she jumped 6m 10 in the Standing Triple Jump; the record had previously been 6 m 04 and had stood since 2003.

INTERNAL SPORTS AFTERNOON
Three separate internal sports afternoons were held – Infants, Lower Junior and Upper Junior. We were lucky with the weather and these were enjoyed and supported by many parents, friends and relatives.

BOCCIA
In June six children went to St Bede’s R.C. Secondary School to take part in the a two part Boccia competition.
 
CROWN GREEN BOWLING – APRIL – JULY 2015
The Bowling Team went along to a competition which was held at Blackburn Corporation Park. This year there were four teams in the competition we did not fair as well as last year coming third but the children all enjoyed the competition.
 
ORIENTEERING – March 2015
Eight Year 6 pupils competed in the Year 5/6 Blackburn with Darwen Primary Schools’ Orienteering Competition, held at Feniscowles Recreation Ground in March 2015. All four pairs performed creditably but were not placed in the top 3.

ROUNDERS
A mixed boys and girls rounders team took part in the Blackburn with Darwen Rounders’ Tournament. They were placed third overall.
 
GYMNASTICS
A group of 7 children entered the Year 3 and 4 Gymnastics competition which this year was held at St Bede’s. There was a team and individual event and approximately seventeen other schools entered. There were five children in the team event and two entered the individual event. One of the girls’ in the individual event came third and went through to represent Blackburn with Darwen at the Lancashire Spar games being held in Blackpool in June. This was a first for Feniscowles!
